A Tuesday Top 10

Yeah, last Sunday night, KGO-TV did its entire nighttime newscast from the The top 10 Truth-O-Meter items you liked in 2014.newsroom; why not the main studio? I was told that the main studio's cameras were all dysfunctional due to tech and computer issues-- automation rules and KGO got kicked. A producer who is/was responsible did not have a very good Sunday night and is still sweating.

*More KGO: Dion Lim is getting some drama fed her way courtesy Kristen Sze. As stated here previously, I don't care for Lim's on-air delivery but I've been told she's a really nice person. Sze, whom I like, has apparent issues with newbies and is sensitive to the new kids on the block. Something's gotta give.

*ADD KGO: Lots of red faces at 900 Front. KGO was the only Bay Area TV station that didn't have a camera at the London Breed Press Conference announcing the death of Mayor Ed Lee. Uh, someone really screwed up here and heads could roll.

*This is Ronn Owens, circa 2018: Owens opens his KGO Radio show and spends a few minutes on Oprah and possible presidential ambition...he then immediately talks over twenty minutes on smart-phone use; there's so much going on in the world and Owens is reduced to his gadget fetish...oh, it got better: To round out the 10 AM hour, Ronnnnn spent 30 minutes yakking about the weather with KTVU weatherman, Bill Martin

Good producing.

*Interesting guy on 860 AM 'The Answer": Michael Medved,a conservative talk-show host who is reasonable and intelligent and doesn't hog the airwaves. It's a good listen on a radio station that has mostly sandpaper as entertainment.

*The ex-Giants' jock who sounded like shit is leaving Knibber in the summer to do Phillies announcing. Mankind will never be the same.

*KPIX the scene: where there's a whack-a-mole in the reporter's newsroom.

*Yeah, that Radnich and Darya "Gary's World" was 86ed. If you want to know why someone's stock is going down at KRON which is sort of like a sale at Payless Shoes For Less.

*Tim Kawakami's favorite actor: Dan Blocker.

  1. I often listen to Michael Medved, I usually switch between him and Tom Sullivan (1530 am Sacramento) like them both, both are conservative, which I'm not, but they are reasonable, take calls from listeners who disagree with them, and can be critical of Trump, especially Medved. They are both on opposite of Ethan Bearman, as is Savage, Bearman's ratings must be in the tank.

KSFO has changed their night time programming, Hannity use to be on from 6 to 9 p.m. then Glenn Beck from 9 to midnight. I usually get off work around 9:30 and have a commute of over an hour, so I try to listen to something interesting and entertaining. Which until 10 was Glenn Beck, not that I'm a big fan, but better than Bearman, at 10 p.m. John Bachelor comes on, and I find his show interesting and informative, even if I disagree. However, not the new line up is David Ramsey from 6 to 9 p.m. then Hannity from 9 to midnight. I cannot listen to Hannity, he just annoys the hell out of me. I really like Dave Ramsey, but he is also on from 3 to 6 p.m. on 650 am Sacramento, I usually listen to an hour or so of his show, as he is on when I take my lunch late afternoon, since I mostly work from 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. It would really be great if KGO got a clue and had some decent programming from 7 to 10 p.m. of course my vote is for John Rothmann. Will keep my fingers crossed.

    1. I listen to radio nightly from 9-11pm. I can't stand Hannity either. Beck's monologues could be really interesting, almost like listening to science fiction when he got all conspiracy focused.

Pretty surprised that Beck lost a huge market like SF Bay Area, and there has been no news coverage. Not even in the industry magazines and blogs.

    2. Can't handle Hannity, Beck just a tad, he won't be missed. John Bachelor just doesn't do it for me. KGO needs something on from 7p to 10p instead of Ethan Bearman reruns, who would be almost listenable without cackling Chrissy. Give John Rothmann that slot, especially now with all the chaos going on in Washington, but KGO's finances probably won't allow it.

    3. Glenn Beck was boring. Hannity is repetitious though I think he means well. Tom Sullivan would be good on TV if he just interviewed guests; on radio he is a little bland on his own.

  2. Bruce and Seth even sound alike. But I will go with Seth liberal politics over centrist Republican Bruce.
Interesting tib bit on Medved..his brother tried being a critic and made some small waves. One day he tried to backtrack by saying "I was only being facetious" Repeated a time or two.
I'm telling you that word went from never heard before...to now being said by every person who wants to sound like he's sophisticated and can't just say "funny".
    That's a fact. I swear.

    1. Forget liberal handout bankrupt politics. Give me the centrist Republican any day of the week.

  3. Also- Radnich said something about "If your gone too long on vacation they start to think they dont need you" the other day.
I think KRON saw no ratings change..and cost them less to boot. He's got some talent..but it was ridiculous that for a few years he was on 10 hours a day on bay area media. I thought the bay area lost its mind. That, and country music putting taking the place of bay area rock and roll stations.

    1. Thanks Stan. An eloquent post where you actually praised Gary. And I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. Lord almighty what's going on here.

    2. Your welcome. 2:42. I and my lawyer have been monitoring the 9-12 and KRONcasts. Raddy has actually stuck to what he's good at. By that,no bad taste left in the viewers/listeners mouth as in the previous "Stay in your lane,Kiss my rear end, etc" episodes.
Now,if he chooses to go back to Racist Rosenberg or cheer when Tarkenton pushes Trump values? My lawyer will be sending him a warning letter.
"Cease and desist being stupid." He is now alerted.

  4. Rich,

Do you happen to know why Gil Gross is filling in for Dave Ross on KCBS? It sounds like Gil is in the outhouse broadcasting.

  5. Just looking at Kristen not too attractive smile, I can tell she is not too friendly. If she looks at herself that tough which is the opposite, she will not lose her main anchor spot to Ama. Great choice for KGO.

    1. You are a fucking idiot if you can read all that into a smile that you don't find "attractive".

  6. So he spent 20 minutes on smart-phone use;that seems refreshing to me; instead of following the pack, discuss other things. If you want to be filled in about the large events; thwere are a plethora of outlets that will get you there.Anyway , i'm sure Owens will have more than enough to opine about regarding Oprah, etc.

  8. That neda iranpour must have the most grating delivery on TV news. Pure nails on a chalkboard. Those of you who complain about Dion clearly have not watched Kpix mornings.

  11. If you want the best evening news, weather forecast, and analysis Monday through Friday, I recommend Mark Finan and the news team at KCRA, Sacramento. Fast, accurate and complete. The weather set is beautifully integrated with the anchor desk and the program flows seamlessly from one to the other. Excellent production and direction and exceptional anchors, reporters and weather forecasting.

  12. Hey Rich, I was hoping for some help, I haven't listened to AN radio in sometime, could you recommend three Bay Area talkers I should try?
Station and timeslots would be greatly appreciated.

  13. Apparently we haven't rid ourselves of Frandsen despite doing some Philly games. He'll be at knibers still and infringing on Marty Lurie which will be horrible. Marty is the only adult left at that station. Laughable that they originally looked so down on the Game and then end up hiring a lot of that station's crappy personnel including a guy named Crowe who is singlehandedly making knibbler as awful as the Game.

  14. John Rothmann was on KFOG this morning. What a nice surprise. He really needs his own talk show.

    1. I like Rothman but not as much as he likes himself and there lies the problem.

  15. Pamela Moore has superpowers. She can look right through Steve Aveson as she talks to Radnich. Like Steve doesn't exist.
Steve? He deserves an Oscar. When Raddy and Moore share a laugh ? He pretends not to be the third wheel on the set and just goes along as if he's loved by her.
I figure he can be there until 2040 and she still wont wish him Merry Christmas. Or,Happy Holidays.

  16. So is Mr. Lee somehow less dead because one t.v. station didn't cover a presser where it was announced he was dead, but merely reported the fact he had died?

  17. from L-2,
I could never understand Gary R. not appearing via video on KRON and only via audio. Afterall, it's TV. I'm glad to see the segment go.
