Subject: KGO 810 Programming Update

Everyone -
I wanted to bring you up to speed on the programming changes that are coming to KGO 810.
The Next Generation of KGO 810 in 2018 will have a new lineup starting Monday Jan 15th.
5A – 10A - Armstrong and Getty will continue to anchor AM Drive
10A – 12:50P - Ethan Bearman will move up from Noon – 2P
12:50P – 1P - As Ronn Owens announced today on his show, after 42 years he is going to slow down and do a daily commentary segment called “The Ronn Owens Report”. (If you remember Andy Rooney on 60 Minutes or Paul Harvey you will love what Ronn will be doing).
1P – 3P - Our newest show coming to KGO 810 is “Dr. Drew Pinski Midday LIVE”.   Dr. Drew is the face and authority of medical views and advice in the media.  We are excited to have him in our lineup.
3P – 7P - Rounding out the new lineup is The Chip Franklin Show, which has been expanded by an hour.
Brian Copeland is coming off his daily show and remaining on the KGO 810 team available for weekends and fill in.
While we are energized with what’s next for KGO 810 programing it’s also with deep regret I share that we have parted ways with Sandra Firpo.
We respect and appreciate her contributions and service to the company.  Cumulus will provide any help and support we can offer with Sandra’s future plans.
If you have any questions please see me.

  1. Gene Burns and others are rolling over in their graves.
What about weekends? Do we stand a chance of John and Pat hanging on, or will we be "treated" to all the selling shows and 10 hours of the questionable chef...? Can't somebody get that guy in the MEtoo movement?

    1. That chef is an egotistical pain, always talking about "my fans" and telling product-pushing guests "you're a rockstar, bro!" Just because he can cook, and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that, doesn't mean he's qualified to interview people & run a radio show.

    1. KGO screwed itself. Drew Pinski? Dr. Death enabler.

    2. Drew, a huge pickup. Talks well, good personality and interesting.

  3. another hour from franklin??!!! "our research shows our audience of middle aged homemakers and retired engineers love his sense of off beat wacky humor and respect the interaction of chip with his two lovely ladies and their take on the news stories of the day"

  4. Is it just my imagination, or does Ethan Bearman spend a lot of time interviewing people who are peddling hokey dietary supplements? It's one thing to discuss the importance of having a sensible diet--I can't quibble with that. But Bearman's discussions about nutrition often deteriorate into what are effectively disguised infomercials for some kind of snake oil or other. The result: his listeners are treated to infomercials interrupted by...commercials.

And an extra hour of Chip Franklin. What joy.

    1. Totally agree , Ethan is so all over the place but always seems to slip in an ad for some kind of Vitamin, and any kind of topic or guest worth listening to is given 15 minutes of his "valuable" airtime. More Chippy the Wonder Donky is perfect for the "new" KGO.

  5. There is now absolutely NO reason to ever again listen to the rotting carcass which KGO has become unless John or Pat are on. And all this took Cumulus only six years to accomplish. Never in my listening life have I seen or heard of a total collapse of a one time great station in so short a time. Cumulus should be run out of the industry on a rail.

    1. Jim

I agree with you a 100%. Just listen to it 11:50 to 12:00 for Ronn other than that kgo is dead.

    2. The responsible party for this is the program director.
Mike Anthony has no idea what he is doing.
A man who is unqualified to run a radio station.

    3. Jim, Agree absolutely. Listeners have been begging kgo on-air & I assume off- as well, to give John and Pat regular timeslots — and now the station has made slots available, J & P are not only still out in the cold but also have to compete with another person (Brian Copeland) for fill-ins.

  6. Radio is dying, if not dead. Accept it.

  7. Go to Sirus/XM and catch John Fugelsang's "Tell Me Everything", weekdays, 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. PT. Our nation's best comedian doing a fresh, thoughtful, diverse, and yes, funny talk show. Channel 121

    3. Sandra IS an incredible lady who was a KEY part of the stellar show which Ron offered for so many years. (Perhaps not recently...but THAT was the fault of the Cumulus dregs brought in to "save" the company.)She was - behind the scenes - a key reason that the KGO entourage felt so at home at the station. Everyone was a part of a TEAM. Which piece by piece, element by element has been dis-assembled by the Cumulus "suits" - those who answer only to the bottom line, and NOT to the needs, desires of the public. KGO has become a portion of the 'dumbing down' of the public airwaves. Thank you Cumulus! I truly await your demise. For once in my life, I will enjoy a dance on the grave of every lying PD, GM and CEO of this abomination.

    3. And the great Joannie Greiggans on weekends. Her show was informative and she was inspirational. Think of all the number of weekend hosts and shows they had over the years! There were a lot of good ones!

  14. The scumulus laughing through horror nightmare that keeps giving. How does anyone including Anthony or Twitmayer keep their jobs? I will rejoice like no other time when cumuless is dead and buried.

  15. No reason to listen anymore. I am pulling streaming from my affiliates and 14 N. CA offices.

  17. Have you people ever heard of the internet or podcasts?? You have tons of radio options for god's sake. Yup, it may take a little work!

    1. A lot of us are working and don’t have many options other than am/fm radios during working hours otherwise I would have abandoned radio decades ago.

    2. Honest question - to those of you working desk jobs, do your companies not allow you to listen to internet radio or even go to a station's website and "listen live"?

      Delete
    3. The problem with listening on the internet is you can't change stations, like you can on a radio with preset stations, it takes longer to go to the website and find listen live or find the podcast you want to listen to. When I'm getting ready for work my portable is the fastest and most convenient way for me to listen. I can turn it on in an instant, and take it with me from bedroom to bathroom and kitchen, and I also get local traffic which I need before I leave for work. I have a long commute, so then I'm confined to my car radio, my car is a 2010 Toyota Camry and does not have Sirius, although I guess I could get one.

Whaddaya mean you can't easily change stations when listening to internet radio?? SURE YOU CAN.

I have several internet radio station "icons" saved on my task bar:
ESPN radio, CBS Sports (radio for Jim Rome), and some Pandora jazz stations. I just click on one of them whenever I want to listen to something else.

Some of my work stations around my company have filters which prevent me from listening; for these days, I listen via my iPhone and my Bluetooth JBL Flip4 speaker.

  18. Sandra Firpo was Ronn's producer, and also produced Pete Wilson't show, if I'm not mistaken. Really nice woman, and sad to see her go too, but probably no room for her in KGO's new world of hosts that have their own.

  19. Pat Thurston had some very nice and eloquent things to say about both Ronn and Brian. She reminded us how long Ronn had a number one show, all the guests he had on, also how funny Brian is, how Micky Luckoff recognized his talent, when Brian did his Ray Taliferro imitation. I think it is too bad both get a bad rap in this blog, they were not perfect, but I for one could listen to their show, which I cannot when it comes to Chip Franklin and Ethan Bearman, giving who else is on KGO it is a loss.

    1. I went back and listened to Pat's podcast from yesterday after reading this. what a nice tribute to Brian and Ronn. Ronn wasn't much of a surprise, but im shocked they got rid of Brian. His topics were the most diverse of any host. I liked when they had his daughter start producing his show. it seems like the guests got better and the topics got more interesting when she came on board. I hope they keep her around.

RIP KGO. There is now zero diversity on that station. Brian should have been given Ronn's slot. He earned it.

    2. I'm not sad about Ronn's departure, but he deserved a proper send-off/tribute from the station — as did Brian. Pat is a class act.

Pinski deserves another shot at a program, considering how he was immediately dropped from networks after saying he was 'Gravely Concerned' with Candidate Hillary's health.

here is hoping that there is a dem congress and a dem president in 2020 and they realize the harm that the 96 telecommunications act did to local radio, and finally overturn it and return local control to radio

  24. Having Dr. Drew Pinsky on KGO at one p.m. will be just like the good old days with Dr. Dean Edell. "Hiya doc, say -- my poop is green, any ideas on what's up?"

  25. Apparently, Mike Anthony is so excited to have Dr Drew in the lineup that he didn't even bother to spell his name correctly: PINSKY.
